State Duma of the Russian Federation ratified the Singapore Trademark Law Treaty.

State Duma ratified the Singapore Trademark Law Treaty, brought in by the Government. As PR and media relations department of the State Duma notes, 406 deputies voted for the ratification.

As the official representative of the Government informed, “Singapore Trademark Law Treaty signed 26^th of March 2007 in Singapore is the next stage of the harmonization of the national legislative systems of the trademarks and in particular its’ part related to administrative procedures”.

It was noted also, that this “agreement foresees the supplemental benefits for applicant and rightholder, which are not foreseen in the Trademark Law Treaty 1994, whose member Russia is since 11^th of May 1998”.

Except Russia, 54 States more signed this agreement; among them are Singapore, Switzerland, Bulgaria and Romania.

This document contains such unified regulations as sequence of compiling an application and applying for trade and service mark, specificity of making alterations in application, license agreements and other documents related to the trade and service marks, regulations concerning the validity period of the registration of the trademark, renewal of this period and other regulations.

To this Treaty is enclosed the Instruction, which includes the typical international forms necessary for trademark registration and related matters, and in particular, an application form for the trademark registration, application for renewal and issuance of license.

According to the official Government representative words, Russia’s membership in this Treaty will provide the equal rights both for the Russian applicants, who register their trademarks abroad, and for the foreign applicants, who register their trademarks on the territory of Russian Federation.
